Biography

Sarah is originally from Northamptonshire, but moved to the West Country to study and work, living in & around Bristol for many years, before moving to France for a further 7 years. She returned to the UK and settled in Cornwall in 2014 and now lives on the Roseland Peninsula.

An evening course in Stained Glass at a local environment centre ignited a passion that saw Sarah develop through further study at The Bristol School Of Art, at the same time she completed a 16+ Teaching Qualification and returned to the very place she had started as a tutor, together they developed courses working with people recovering from Drug & Alcohol Abuse & Mental Health issues, a regular Adult Education programme, family open days & other community group teaching.

Sarah studied Drawing & Applied Art at the University of West of England (UWE) before moving to France, where she registered and worked as a Stained Glass Artisan. Sarah became well known locally, regularly attending Art & Craft Markets, Exhibitions, teaching (both in English & French), completing commissions as well as learning restoration techniques from a ‘Maitre Verrier’ in Limoges. Sarah was a member of an Artists Collective in the Region, contributing to many Exhibitions together & took part in regular ‘Pop-up’ Boutiques.  Sarah was awarded the Public Vote in the annual Salon Des Artistes Exhibition run by the local Tourist Office a number of times.

Following her return to the UK, Sarah focused her energy on resettling her family and obtaining full time work to support them.  Devastatingly her well equipped studio in France and portfolio of work were all destroyed at this time.

In recent years Sarah has reduced her work hours and continued to explore other art mediums at home plus attending local workshops, often in Print – particularly enjoying drypoint & monotype.  Sarah has also developed a mindful approach to life in general and in particular her art practice and has qualified as a Mindful Photography Facilitator with the ‘Look Again’ training programme.  She has created a dedicated space at home once more for both art & glass and regathered the tools and equipment required – although hopes eventually to move into a larger space!

Inspired by the landscape, nature and found drawings that bring a personal symbolism, Sarah creates an emotive expression in her work, integrating the organic forms & lines of the natural world in a language of light and shadow.
